I am so glad we came and tried Pickles Perch, the food was phenomenal, the mocktails were tasty, and the service was friendly and attentive! We visited using First Table, I wouldn't have visited otherwise - goes to show that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover! The location for Google Maps is the Hotel's front entrance, but the easiest way to find Pickles Perch is at the corner of Waterloo Road and Bloomfield Terrace. There is one big sign out the front that says Pickles Perch - but you might be confused when viewing menus online because all the menus say 'The Angus Bistro' We had the duck liver pâté as a shared entrée to begin, it was lovely, I just wish there was more toasted bread to spread it on! Each of us ordered different mains (Lamb leg, Pork Belly, and the Steak) and we can confidently say we each ordered the best dish on the menu! The mains were the perfect size and the flavours were fantastic - compliments to the chefs! I wish I had more room in my belly to try the dessert options. The atmosphere is a relaxed vibe and the restaurant was surprisingly busy - there are lovely big booths bathed in filtered light, and even though it's situated on a busy corner you can't hear the road noise at all. There's free parking in the hotel's carpark - just remember to validate your parking before sitting down. We'll definitely be returning! The staff were very attentive, friendly, and always on-hand if needed.

Had a Father’s Day lunch with the family and about 3/4 of the place was filled as they had a special going on with a $40 pork belly roast and dessert. Order was taken promptly however there was about a 45min wait till our food arrived and not once were we checked on by the staff. One of our orders was incorrect but corrected without any fuss. The meals were great but we found the steak to be slightly tough but not something that’ll stop us from patronising again. Upon payment, our bill had some errors and we had to go through each order to ensure all is correct which did take sometime. It’s a great place to hang out but bear in mind that service do tend to be slow when they’re overwhelmed. Entertainment from Pickles the cockatoo is always a great way to kill sometime especially if you have kids

First time visiting here. Warmly greeted by KerryRose. We ordered 2 wines 3 beers(happy hour), 2 Chowders, 1 starter and 1 Main. Didn't have to wait too long for our food. During our meal we had 2 uninvited guests crawling on our table(ants). Called over a staff person who then licked her finger, picked them up and walked away. Cozy atmosphere. Great food and service. Reasonable prices. A satisfying dining experience. Even got to meet Pickles the parakeet bird standing on his perch.

All the bistro features are great at Pickles Perch and I do recommend it BUT if you park in the customer car park, do remember to validate your parking at the bar. The fee for failing to do so is now $85. This is very unreasonable and you may be successful if you challenge it (see MoneyHub's guide to 'Fight Ripoff Parking Tickets'), but challenging it is still a faff wrapped in a hassle and tied together with a bother.

I enjoyed the comfortable booths and abundant natural light. A relaxing place with good decor. The staff and their service were wonderful. The menu has NZ hearty meals with good portions. Will return for their pumpkin soup
